Note: this blog post was written on 9/8, before Hurricane Irma hit Florida.
We are keeping our fingers crossed. As we write this on Friday 9/8 we simply don’t know where Hurricane Irma is heading. However, we have a very nasty feeling that it has us in its sights. We pray that it is not the case, but every few years we get caught, and perhaps one year in 50 or 100 it is a really big one like Irma. This is something that has not been seen in most of our lifetimes.
One thing that we can be certain of at Glass Door Repair (GDR) of Miami, Florida, is that if it does hit us there is going to be a massive call for Miami sliding glass door repair. Many of the buildings in Miami were erected in the 1950’s and 1960’s and their windows and doors are made of glass which was never designed to withstand the force of a hurricane for the simple reason that in those days the technology just was not available.
Hurricane Glass and Hurricane Preparedness
Today we have high impact-resistant glass – often known in Florida as hurricane glass. Even this may not be able to withstand the force of a hurricane such as Irma, because it is not just the wind speed that is the problem, but the impact of flying projectiles that might hit your sliding glass door or your windows. When you get things the size of cars being picked up and flung around nothing is safe. (Check out the Hurricane Preparedness page on Express Glass & Board Up’s site at http://www.expressglassfl.com/hurricane-preparedness/).
However, we are always urging our customers to err on the side of safety. You could live your whole life and never need Miami sliding glass door repair, but why take the risk? As we said, we are writing this on 9/8 so we have no idea whether Irma will veer off up the coast or score a direct hit. What we DO know is that if you are unlucky enough to suffer from the slings and arrows of outrageous Irma then you should renew or repair your sliding glass door with the very latest impact-resistant glass so that you are protected as much as you possibly can be in the future.
The Good News: Hurricane Glass Can Help
Here is the good news: yes, at Glass Door Repair we are likely to be extremely busy for the next few weeks, but we have all of the very latest 2017 hurricane resistant glass and replacement sliding glass doors IN STOCK at our warehouse. Don’t settle for anything less. This may be a once in a lifetime occurrence, but with global warming it is beginning to look as though it is going to happen more often. Let’s face it, we had Harvey and we thought that was bad enough, but then a week later we have Irma! For all your Miami sliding glass door repair needs just call us for service that cannot be beaten.
